I am revisiting a lot of work from the Faroe Islands for an upcoming piece for an awesome magazine.
This was shot for one of my favorite people, Eiler Fagraklett, who is the art director at a Faroese insurance company who sponsors Pál. Eiler and another Faroese art director, Ingibjørg Jacobsen, are the major reason that I am a photographer today. They were the first people to believe in and support me, and working with them paid most of my bills for the first four years of my career (aka up until last year).

My new book “HOME.” is finally ready for a wide launch. For purchase information, go here.

HOME. is an 80-page book measuring 9.5×13 inches. The digitally printed piece, unbound and held together with a rubber band, contains four hand screen-printed spreads, 12 pages of inserts and 54 images. The images, made over the last two years in Wyoming, the Faroe Islands and the Philippines, are combined with essays, quotes and an adorable interview with the photographer’s 10-year-old nephew all exploring connection to place and what it means to belong.

Part 5

In May I traveled to the Faroe Islands to work with one of my favorite and longest running clients on a cookbook.  The goal was to create imagery that evoked a sense of place to connect the food in the book with the place it comes from.

Looking back at 2012

As 2012 comes to a close, it is amazing to think back on what this year has meant for me photographically.  I shot projects in the Philippines, the Faroe Islands, Guatemala and Italy, as well as all around the U.S. I began shooting for awesome publications like Outside, Men’s Journal, Marie Claire, Condé Nast Traveler, Stern, Surface, Money, AARP and 5280. I have been able to work on some wonderful stories, photograph some incredible people, and shoot my first cover for a major magazine.

I wanted to share some of my favorite shoots from this great year.  Unfortunately, almost nothing I have shot in the last two months has run, so this is really more of a “Best of the First 10 Months” series.

The blog NGO Insider did a nice post of my Faroese Whale Kill project.  It is interesting, because this work feels so distant from what I am doing now, but it is nice that it still has some life left in it.
Read it here.
There is an awesome larger project I have researching on this topic that I hope to pursue in the next couple of years. If anyone knows of any grants that focus on environmental or marine issues, give me a shout.
